The Emmett technique is a therapy which involves using light pressure and light movements on specific points on the body called Emmett points, in order to release tension in the muscles, reduce pain and stiffness, and improve mobility. Although it is often used in conjunction with other therapies, it is a stand alone therapy in its own right. It is based on the premise that in any highly complicated system, there are critical points to which the smallest input can produce the greatest change. When these points are stimulated on the body, the nervous system registers the stimulation and the brain responds by sending new instructions effect positive change. It is particularly useful for treating stiff necks and shoulders, but can also be beneficial for a range of other issues such as tight hamstrings, balance problems, breathing difficulties and even lymph drainage.
