Chiropractic is a very diverse profession. It is nervous system based. The underlying idea is to adjust the bones of the skeleton whose position has become imbalanced. In practice, posture, accidents and surgery are the most common reasons for these imbalances. Because the nerves are near to the bones, the chiropractic adjustment frees them so that they can then perform their role efficiently.
The McTimoney method has two main characteristics. The adjustments are low force because of their accuracy and speed. Also, the whole of the body is checked and adjusted on each visit, not just the symptom based area. Usually two to four treatments are needed by a new patient to clear their symptoms. This is judged individually as no two people are exactly alike even if their presenting symptoms are similar. Emmet technique may also be used.
